On Friday, October 20th, Richie Webber, a native of Clyde, Ohio was NCA's guest speaker to kick off Red Ribbon Drug and Mental Health Awareness Week. After suffering a serious sports injury in high school, Richie became addicted to painkillers, which eventually led to heroin addiction. He knows first-hand the struggles of addiction and how quickly one’s life can spiral out of control.. A former MMA fighter, Richie was featured on A&E's hit series “60 Days In” and currently travels the country having honest conversations about addiction and mental health recovery. His candid conversation encouraged students to stay away from substances and never feel ashamed when asking for help.

NCA celebrates Unity Day this year with the 6th Annual Unity Day Celebration. Students were asked to wear as much orange as they could. Students and teachers wearing orange were uniting for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to send a visible message that no student at NCA should ever experience bullying. Students also helped turn the school orange with classroom door decorations, an orange Unity Chain and orange hands to signify their Unity in preventing bullying and unkind behaviors. The links and orange hands were used to make a peace sign in the locker hallway. On Oct. 18th, students participated in several icebreakers and team building games to help students get to know other students and to have fun together to boost school climate. Unity day concluded with our Annual Orange Day Parade. Each homeroom chooses a song to walk down the hallway to and just have fun. Students had glow bracelets, glow tubes, sunglasses, and clap hands to show off their Orange Day Spirit with. Afterwards, students enjoyed a pizza party with orange drinks and orange snacks while sitting in the shape of a U for Unity.

Richie Webber will be NCA’s feature guest speaker tomorrow, October 20th. This event will kick off Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31, 2023.

Prescribed painkillers for a sports injury in high school, Richie knows first-hand the struggles of addiction and how quickly one’s life can spiral out of control. A former MMA fighter, Richie was featured on A&E's hit series “60 Days In” and currently travels the country having honest conversations about addiction and mental health recovery. His candid, yet caring approach has helped many locate and enter rehab facilities throughout his travels.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support we are receiving from our local community. Today we are giving a shout out to Natalie Piper at North St. Styling Salon for these two baskets that will be raffled off at our Family Fall Fest on November 2nd!
